City Of Quesnel In The Black For 2015

The City of Quesnel had a surplus of $209,511 in 2015.

Director of Finance Kari Bolton delivered the news at last (March 15) night’s meeting.
The surplus will go towards three areas.
Bolton successfully suggested that 125 thousand be returned to the tax stabilization reserve, money that was used to balance the budget, $71,975 to be put in an allocated surplus account for future tax sale purchases and the remaining $12,536 be allocated to the Capital Reinvestment Reserve.
The money for future tax sale purposes would basically buy the land that the brown cabins were on on Lewis Drive before they were demolished, should the owner chose not to pay for that work.
Mayor Bob Simpson, also the Chair of the Finance Committee, says this year’s surplus was actually lower than normal because he says the city is getting better at budgeting at the beginning of the year for what they actually need.
