Smoke Expected To Be Visible From 2 Williams Lake Area Prescribed Burns Until April 30

The prescribed burn in the area around Thunder Mountain Speedway, South of Williams Lake, will continue today (April 25).

Fire Information Officer Madison Dahl said the burn will cover up to 20 hectares in that area adjacent to Bond Lake Road.

“Smoke will be visible from Williams Lake and surrounding communities and to motorists travelling along Highway 20, Dog Creek Road, and Bond Lake Road. While burning is underway traffic control will be on site and short delays may occur.”

Dahl said the perimeter of the burn will be extinguished at the end of each day and firefighters will return to the site daily to ensure the full extinguishment of the fire however smoke may remain visible coming from within the perimeter of the fire up until Wednesday April 30.

“Ignitions are complete on the Fox Mountain prescribed burn on the North side of Fox Mountain Drive.” Dahil noted, “Firefighters will remain on site through the weekend until the burn is extinguished. Smoke from both the Thunder Mountain Speedway and Fox Mountain prescribed burns are expected to be visible until Wednesday April 30.”
