The Cariboo job numbers are out for the month of February.
Andrew Fields, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats Canada, says the unemployment rate was 7.4 percent last month, up from just 5 percent in February of 2015.
He says there were 77 thousand people employed in the region last month, down about 5 thousand from the previous year.
Most of the job losses were once again in the natural resources sector, continuing a trend that has continued for the past year and a half.
If there is a silver lining to the Cariboo’s jobless rate, it’s that last month’s 7.4 percent figure was lower than the 7.9 percent recorded in January.
