Prescribed Burn in Williams Lake to Happen over the Coming Weekend

Williams Lake Residents are warned they may see smoke and flames this weekend.

The B.C. Wildfire Services (BCWS) will be conducting a prescribed burn on approximately six hectares on the north side of Highway 97, near the ‘Welcome to Williams Lake’ sign and Bellevue Drive.

The burning is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 5, as long as weather conditions are favourable. The burns will be completed on Sunday, April 6.

BCWS says smoke and flames will be visible from Williams Lake, Williams Lake First Nation, the Coyote Rock Golf Club, and to motorists on Highway 97.

Firefighters will be on–site to provide traffic control and ensure the public’s safety.

BCWS cautions that smoke within the perimeter of the burn will be visible and in the air for up to 72 hours after ignition. They advise the public to wear safety gear, such as masks, if passing through an area with lots of smoke.
