Once again Central Cariboo Search and Rescue had an opportunity to share with the community what they love doing.
Recently they hosted youth from the Boys and Girls Club Williams Lake on how to have a safe and fun time outdoors.
Team Member and Public Relations, Deborah Bortolussi said the focus of their presentation was on BC AdventureSmart’s Survive Outside program.
“There are two presentations that we do here in Williams Lake. One is the “Hug a Tree to Survive” and the other is “Survive Outside.” Although they talk about similar things, one is for youth under 12 and the other is for 13-year-olds right up to the oldest adult that wants to get out there adventuring.”
Bortolussi said it was a wonderful time, in addition to the presentation Central Search and Rescue had equipment demonstrations, taught survival techniques and gave a tour of their hall.

“They loved it,” Bortolussi said, “they got to see the Rescue trucks, and the tools we use when we get tasked out. We also find the adults in the room always learn something new to, whether it’s a survival technique, some outdoor safety, or something about Search and Rescue they didn’t know.”
When the presentation was over the youth were given a survival bag to take home with them.
“As part of the BC AdventureSmart presentation they give us these bags that has a couple of key items in it that we teach the youth and the adults how to use. It can go directly in their hiking backpack or their vehicle, or wherever they’re going to use it most.”
Bortolussi added they love sharing what they do and they love to be able to share knowledge so people adventure outdoors safely.
