United Way BC has launched a donation campaign to tackle rising food insecurity.
The funding will support regional community food hubs in Clearwater and Williams Lake and every dollar raised stays local supporting food programs in these communities
United Way BC said this year the average canadian household will spend $800 or more on food than last year.
“Imagine having to choose between paying rent or buying food.” Alzbeta Sabova, Director, Food Security, United Way BC said, “With inflation, layoffs, rising food prices, too many people are struggling to stay afloat. Through it all, United Way BC is committed to supporting people in need.”
Half a million people in BC don’t have enough to eat every day and that number is growing.
Last year the community food hubs provided over 5,000 meals and 484 food hampers across the Thompson-Nicola Cariboo.
