Last In-Person Recruitment Session At The Williams Lake Fire Department Hall

Once again the Williams Lake Fire Department will be holding an in-person recruitment session at their Hall.

Deputy Fire Chief Brendan Foote said it will start this evening (Tuesday) at 7:30.

“I will sit down with anyone who is interested that comes to this evening’s session and go over what being a firefighter for our Department entails. What the Department is about, what they can expect if they decide to apply for the position of a paid on-call firefighter, we’ll go through all that to see if that’s something they’d be interested in applying for.”

Foote said when the recruitment campaign is over, they go through the hiring process of interviewing and selecting with the rest of the Officer group.

“Once they get selected they get enrolled in the NFPA 1001 Professional Firefighting program, which roughly takes 18 to 24 months to complete. Upon completion of that program you are considered a professional firefighter in North America.”

The Williams Lake Fire Department held an in-person session last Tuesday (March 18) and had a handful of people show up for it.

“I got some great questions from a bunch of different people, handed out some applications and we’ve already received a couple back from that session. I’m hoping that tonight is just as successful.”

Foote said being a part of the Williams Lake Fire Department is a lot of work and if you ask the Department members they will all tell you that it’s very rewarding, very exciting, and you get to be a part of a very close knit family type atmosphere.

Anyone interested in becoming a member must be 19 years of age, physically fit and live within the fire protection area.
