The Miocene Volunteer Fire Department Hall fuel supply was broken into recently.
Fire Chief Quinton Duhamel said after responding to a medical call on March 20 they came back to the Hall to fill up the truck and noticed their fuel containment area had been tampered with and broken into.
“It looks like about 3 Jerry cans of premium gasoline was taken. This is very concerning, this is for Emergency Services. The community pays and maintains this facility so it definitely affects everybody,” Duhamel said.
He said luckily the Department did their monthly checks on March 17 and everything was fuelled up but this definitely takes time away from the volunteers and members to now repair stuff and get fuel for the next service call.
“We’ve noticed in the last 6 to 8 months we’ve had windows smashed out of our building and this is the second fuel break in and theft we’ve had in that time. We’ve been trying to work with the Cariboo Regional District on cameras and security system. We’re trying to work with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Commissioner of BC to see if we can upgrade and install a security system at the Hall.”
Duhamel said the Miocene Volunteer Fire Department had a local business reach out to them willing to donate up to $500 to help out and he thanked them for their very generous offer.
