Host Club “Rocked” The Nifty Fifty Curling Bonspiel In Williams Lake

“It was a fantastic celebration of women, and curling, and friendship.”

That’s how Nicole Bellamy, Manager of the Williams Lake Curling Club summed up the recent 56th Annual Province Wide Nifty Fifty Bonspiel.

Teams from all over BC and the Cariboo were taking part in this event held March 16 to 19.

“We got so much praise for hosting,” Bellamy said, “people were gushing over our club, our committee, the City, they loved the hospitality. One woman said she had never been to Williams Lake before, she had no reason to come here before, and she was so glad that she did.”

There was no shortage of volunteers to help run the Bonspiel as all 68 positions where all filled from hospitality to the opening ceremonies.

“We had the Mayor and the Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA stop by and lots of representation from our sponsors. We even had people ask about League play, that’s another good reason to host such an event like this.”

Bellamy noted that during the Opening Ceremonies there was a huge cheer and applause when the Mayor announced that the vacancy rate for accommodations the night before was zero in Williams Lake.

“I told the ladies during the Closing Ceremonies that the highlight of the Bonspiel for me was singing Oh Canada together especially when the lyrics of free came up,” Bellamy said.
