Spring Has Sprung In The Cariboo

It’s official..Spring has arrived in the Cariboo.

To find out more about what Mother Nature has in store for the region in the few first days of a new season, we asked Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada Lisa Erven.

“For the first couple of days we’re starting off with some cooler conditions, the chance of showers and flurries as well as some gusty winds. By the time we get into early to mid next week we’ll see those temperatures rise 5 to 10 degrees above normal for this time of year.”

Erven said Spring is a very dynamic time of the year where you can get periods of heat, periods of colder weather, snow, rain and also the risk of thunderstorms.

Looking at the forecast for next week, Environment Canada expects to see temperatures rise to double digits.

With that in mind we asked Erven if there is a potential the Cariboo may set or come close to a record high.

“It’s definitely going to feel much warmer than the recent temperatures the region has been experiencing. In terms of records for Quesnel and 100 Mile House the standing records are in the upper teens, even cracking into the low 20’s for the time period next week. Those communities won’t set daily records but could be in second or third place. For Williams Lake the current standing records are more in and around the mid teens. Our forecasted temperatures are certainly close and flirting with daily records so Williams Lake has the potential.”

Erven summed up the Cariboo’s first full week of Spring by saying next week we will see relief from the cold air but late next week and the following weekend the warm air will slump back southwards and we’ll enter into more seasonal temperatures.
