Extrication Team Spent A Lot Of Time On Cariboo Roads In Early March

The first part of March was extremely busy for one Auto Extrication Team in the Cariboo.

Member and Public Relations for Central Cariboo Search and Rescue, Deborah Bortolussi said within the first 12 days, they responded to 9 motor vehicle incidents.

“Many of those being two in a day,” Bortolussi said, “or about one every 12 hours. It was very busy and lots of what appeared to be due to changing weather conditions and people appearing being potentially unprepared for that.”

Bortolussi said SARS normally has at least one busy month in the springtime.

“To compare that with February, in all of February we responded to 11 motor vehicle incidents, where as in the first 12 days of March we were already hitting close to those numbers.”

Although the region is starting to see warmer weather, road conditions will continue to vary with many hazards.

To keep our roads safer for everyone Central Cariboo Search and Rescue reminds motorists to:

Slow down and follow speed limits.

Stay focused, impaired or distracted driving is never acceptable.

Be mindful of ever changing weather conditions.

Always wear your seat belt and be prepared for increased wildlife, pedestrians, and with Spring Break, more traffic on the roads and Highways.

“When you see lights and hear sirens or any First Responders on the side of the road or Highways, please give them the respect they deserve as it can be very dangerous out there for us. So ensure that you’re giving lots of room, that you’re pulling over and slowing down as you come as you’re coming past an accident scene,” Borotlussi noted.
