Williams Lake 96 Years Young

It’s a very special day for the City of Williams Lake and it’s going to be celebrated in a big way.

This afternoon (March 14) starting at 2 the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin will be throwing it’s annual birthday party and invites everyone to attend.

We’re going to have so much,” Volunteer Coordinator Judy MacLeod said, “We’re going to have cake and dignitaries, and interviews with some of the elders from the bands in our surrounding area and our community.”

MacLeod said the museum is really excited to share with everyone the incredibly rich history that has made the Lake City what it is today.

There’s a combination of every type of history displays here, the railway, the ranching, the mining, the forestry, so when you come to the museum you’re going to see it all. It’s just too hard to put it into words in a tight time frame of how much history we have here. Our community has been around for 96 years, people have gone to war, people have come home, it’s really an adventurous place when you look at it all.”

Macleod said when tourist come through town and stop into the Tourism Discovery Centre they’re blown away that there’s a museum inside as well.
