“Honoured and proud.”
That’s how Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty said he felt this past Sunday (March 9) when he handed King Charles the third Coronation Medals to 4 members from the Cariboo.
They included Brian Reid Sr and Andre Chevigny from Pioneer log homes, Roy Call, and NHL superstar Carey Price.
Doherty said Price received the medal more for his accomplishments off the ice than on the ice.
“Carey is probably one of our largest mental health champions within our Nation.” Doherty said, “He has done a tremendous amount of work in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and removing the barriers for those seeking help. He’s shown by telling his own story that it’s ok to ask for help and it’s ok not to be ok.”
Doherty noted the work Brian Reid Sr, Andre Chevigny, and Roy Call have all done to showcase the Cariboo region to the world and the work that they do quietly within the community is to be commended.
“They don’t do it for the fanfare, they don’t do it for the media attention, they do it because it’s the right thing to do. These individuals are very humble and true to form they all said that they didn’t need a medal and were thankful to receive it.”
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Canada or a particular Province.
