The City of Quesnel is once again trying to hasten the development of the former Quesnel Junior School land.
It sent another letter this week to the Board of Education following up a previous letter back in October that asked for a prompt transfer of the lands to the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship.
The idea is that it could be used to fill a needed housing gap in the community.
The city says the transfer would allow it and First Nations to collaborate on future housing development on the site.
The City has approved the subdivision of the daycare on the site, leaving the remaining property the largest undeveloped bare land in the downtown core.
It says the lands are ideally located for housing because they are within proximity to the hospital, medical, financial and commercial resources.
The old school was demolished back in May of 2020 and has since been returned to green space.
A new junior school was built on Mountain Ash Road in the Red Bluff area and it opened in September of 2022.
