Preparations Underway To Rock The House In Williams Lake

The Williams Lake Curling Club will be putting out the welcome mat later this month.

March 16th to 19th they’ll be hosting the 56th Annual Province-wide Nifty Fifty Bonspiel.

Manager Nicole Bellamy says 24 out of town ladies rinks and 3 from the Lake City will be taking part.

We have teams coming from Victoria, Nanaimo, Comox, the Lower Mainland, Kelowna, Ashcroft, 100 Mile House, Clinton, Quesnel, Merritt, Salmon Arm, and 3 teams from Williams Lake.”

Bellamy said it’s a longstanding tradition here in the province to have this event.

It’s the 56th Annual so that speaks volumes. There were a couple of years were it wasn’t hosted and one of them was a COVID year. It’s a four day event and it’s all women over the age of fifty taking part. At this time we have 36 women over the age of 75 competing and we’re looking forward to watching them all play.”

Bellamy said they still have 68 volunteer slots to fill.

We need greeters, fifty-fifty and raffle sellers, light cleaning, hospitality, opening ceremonies, lounge helpers, and drivers. We have ladies who have rented a bus, I think it’s 5 or 6 teams, that will be coming on a bus from the Lower Mainland and we will need drivers for those teams while they are here in Williams Lake.”

Anyone who would like to volunteer during the 56th Annual Province-wide Nifty Fifty Bonspiel March 16th to 19th can contact the Williams Lake Curling Club or visit their website for more information.
