On Friday February 28, the Catholic Independent Schools Kamloops Diocese stated in a release that Sacred Heart Catholic School in Williams Lake will remain open for 2025-2026 school year.
Superintendent of Schools, Christopher Yuen, said through everyone’s concentrated efforts, they have successfully met the conditional financial obligation set forth by the Board of Directors on February 7, 2025.
At that time they rescinded their decision to close Sacred Heart Catholic School on the condition the school could meet the financial amount of in-hand donations of $170,000 by February 28.
As of this past Friday, the in-hand donations total is $203,565, pledged amounts are $47,930.
“What a remarkable example of unity, solidarity and community,” Yuen stated.
Now the Superintendent’s office will work with the Pastor and Local School Committee to provide a critical path and guidance on the question of sustainability.
“Initial conversations are well underway and I look forward to the upcoming discussions,” Yuen said.
