Thompson Rivers University Day of Giving to support students is underway.
This years goal is to raise fifty-thousand dollars in just 24-hours and donors can choose a cause from across TRU’s faculties and schools including the Williams Lake Campus.
Katrina Harding, TRU Advancement Officer said they are confident this year’s Day of Giving will exceed 2024’s 48-hour target which was $48,000.
“This year we want to challenge communities to come forward in just a 24 hour period. We have some exciting giving challenges that are activating. When you go to our website tru.ca/givingday you’ll see you’ll be able to expand your impact with your gift through matching gifts and through unlocking challenges. If you’re an early bird or a night owl, you might be able to help unlock extra support for students by giving at different parts of the day.”
In the 2023-24 academic year, 975 students received donor-funded awards through Thompson Rivers University Foundation.
“Last year we raised enough money to provide every first year nursing student in Williams Lake with their Lab Tools, a stethoscope, a blood pressure cuff, and other various tools they needed.” Harding said, “We talked to the students after and they said it really showed them, not only to relieve some of the financial pressure, but it showed them that there are people in the community that believe in them, that want them to succeed. It was really re-enforcing for a lot of students to show that they made the right decision to continue on with their education.”
Harding shared how residents can show their support on this Day of Giving for the TRU Williams Lake Campus students.
“We encourage you to give to the TRU Williams Lake Endowed Fund for student support. This is a growing Fund we have looking to raise a million dollars to create a Fund that will give scholarships to students. You can go online tru.ca/givingday to learn more and give your gift.”
Those wishing to make a donation have until midnight tonight (February 27).
