Miocene Volunteer Fire Department In Recruitment Mode

If you’re looking for a way to give back to your community, the Miocene Volunteer Fire Department wants to hear from you.

Fire Chief Quinton Duhamel said they are currently recruiting, looking for new members to join their team.

“When it comes to training new recruits we start with safety communications and Personal Protection Equipment, so we’ll get you on the truck and then we’ll get into traffic control and then the EMR FR which is first responder medical training, and then we get you into fire fighting.”

Duhamel noted that new members will be ready to go in 6 months and to complete the full fire fighting course it’s usually about 16 months to get the complete course done.

“We usually look to have 25 members and currently we have 15 so we’re short ten members to complete a full roster. We lost quite a few members in the last year just from them moving out of the district. Most members stay right to retirement or until they can’t do it anymore. There are always jobs and tasks in the Hall for people who can’t even do the physical fire fighting anymore.”

Duhamel said the Miocene Volunteer Fire Department’s recruitment campaign will run until the end of March that way they can get new recruits ready for the wild land fire season.
