March 12th.
That’s when the Cariboo Regional District will be testing its emergency notification system.
CRD Communications Manager Gerald Pinchbeck said this test is a crucial component of pre-wildfire season preparedness and will help ensure residents are able to receive notifications about evacuation orders and alerts impacting their families.
“Anyone who has subscribed to our Notification System should expect to receive an alert as long as they have signed up to receive an alert for a location inside the Cariboo Regional District and have either their cell phone, their landline, email, or have downloaded the Voyent Alert App from the Google Play Store or the Apple Store.”
Pinchbeck said the CRD is working out the final timelines for which areas will be notified and the sequence they will be notified in however we will be conducting the test throughout the day.
“The way to make sure that you receive notifications as long as you have internet or a cellular data connection is to download the Voyent Alert App. The other way to register especially if you have a landline or or would like to receive notifications to your email or text SMS, you can visit cariboord.ca/emergencynotifications and follow the instructions to sign up there,” Pinchbeck noted.
The Cariboo Regional District encourages its subscribers to ensure that they are signed up to receive notifications about any secondary properties, favourite recreations sites, and homes of family members.
“Another thing people can do,” Pinchbeck said, “they can call our office or visit us at any of our locations to help with their registration. Anyone who wants to call the Emergency Programs Services Department for assistance can reach us 1-800-665-1636 and we’ll be happy to sign you up.”
Last year was the first year the CRD used Voyent Alert after switching over from EverBridge and we started the year with around 26,000 subscribers and by the end of the year there were over 28,000.
