New Miocene Fire Truck Expected To Arrive Sometime In March

The Miocene Volunteer Fire Department is anxiously awaiting the arrival of their new Fire truck.

In November of 2023 the Cariboo Regional District asked Miocene residents to vote on a proposal to borrow up to $800,000 over ten years to finance the replacement of an aging out pumper truck.

The vote tally was 97 to 26 in favour.

Miocene Fire Chief Quinton Duhamel said this new vehicle is their primary Engine, the first truck out every time for any structure fire, medical, or motor vehicle incident.

“After the referendum was approved the cab was ordered and now it’s at Fort Gary in Winnipeg where the last couple of months they’ve been building the body and the chassis and it should be done in about another month.”

Duhamel said it will be similar to the current truck it will be replacing with a couple of newer options like a crew cab so they can haul five firefighters instead of two to the scene and it has a little bit bigger pump.

“When it arrives we plan to do an open house.” Duhamel said, “We’ll follow the tradition when any new apparatus arrives at a Fire Hall it’s suppose to be pushed in by the members through the hall bay for the first time. Then the training starts on the new pump for the members.”
