The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District (CCRHD) is in the closing days for Requests for Proposal(RFP) on a new building in 100 Mile House that could house healthcare workers.
“One of the biggest challenges we  have in recruiting and getting people to come to the Caribou is housing and accommodation,” says Al Richmond, Chair of the CCRHD. “We have rented homes and apartments in the past,  in 100 Mile House and 108, but the locations are further out.”
Richmond adds that the CCRHD has a contract with the City of Quesnel to house healthcare professionals who come in for locum work.
The proposed building is located on Third Street, off Birch Avenue, behind the 100 Mile Community Hall. The same site as the old CFFM building, which will be part of the demolisions for the new building, which will have two storeys.
The bottom floor will house CRD offices, including a reception area, a boardroom, and service rooms—an area needed as 100 Mile does not currently have a CRD office. The second floor, potentially more, depending on the design selected, will house temporary or locum healthcare workers.
“Our goal is to try and get this job done this year,” says Richmond. “It is still in the concept-design phase and proposals. Then staff will analyze the proposals and bring a recommendation to the board based on design and cost to see what we can accomodate.”
CCRHD’s estimated cost for the new building roughly comes in around $2.5 million and is seeking a Class C estimate for the project.
The final day for proposal requests is February 16.
