In anticipation of extreme cold weather this weekend ( February 1 and 2) an emergency warming space will be available to the City’s most vulnerable people in Williams Lake.
Director of Protective Services, Evan Dean said they will be opening up the Longhouse at the Williams Lake Stampede Grounds next to the Curling Club Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.
“We worked together with a number of our Community Groups as well as Interior Health” Director of Protective Services, Evan Dean said, “to facilitate opening this up for the daytime this Saturday and Sunday.”
Environment Canada is forecasting for tomorrow (Saturday) a chance of flurries and wind chills of minus 13 in the morning and minus 23 by afternoon, and for Sunday a high of minus 16.
Dean said the City is always working with all the local agencies to try and find solutions to cold weather situations.
“We started to make motions to actually resolve this one when the weather advisories were coming out so we got things rolling and put this emergency warming space in place.”
