B-C College of Family Physicians says sick notes are a thing of the past

Our province’s family doctors are calling on the provincial government to follow through on its promise to outlaw employer-mandated sick notes.

The B-C College of Family Physicians added such notes aren’t medically necessary.

They bog down doctors in paperwork, and take away valuable appointment slots from people who really need help.

The Canadian Medical Association estimates doctors waste the equivalent of six-million patient visits a year writing such notes.

Health Minister Josie Osborne said they’re still figuring out whether they can cancel the practice through regulation changes, or whether legislation will be needed.
