Sergeant Brian Lamb says RCMP seized a weapon that “is something you don’t see every day.”
Lamb says RCMP went to a rental property in the 105 Mile House area on January 25, answering from the property’s owner.
The Owner believed he had found a toy BB gun, but says after inspecting the firearm, found out it was more dangerous.
“Police located a modified BB gun that contained 40 caliber ammunition,” says Lamb. “Which is a prohibited firearm based on the modifications. The weapon was seized.”
Replica firearms, such as Airsoft guns, are often found modified to resemble their real-life counterparts. In this case, an already realistically looking firearm has been converted to live ammunition.
“I will say, this definitely does not happen every day… It does happen that most replica firearms are modified to make them look realistic. Or real firearms often modified to be concealed. But in this case, this is new.”
Lamb adds that without a firearms expert inspecting the converted BB gun, police cannot determine whether the BB gun is even operational.
Police have not charged anyone and have made no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
