Residents Asked To Watch For Text Scam

A South Cariboo resident reported to 100 Mile House RCMP that they had received a text message from someone claiming to be from the RCMP.

It was in regards to a delivery notice concerning court documents with an internet link.

The individual recognized this to be a possible scam and reported it.

RCMP said they do not send text messages or deliver court documents through a third party website and that fraudsters will often use government logos to make themselves appear as being real in an attempt to obtain personal or financial payment or information.

It is recommended that if you receive a message that appears suspicious to verify its legitimacy through the actual source before responding or providing any information.

Police said to delete and disregard this text message if you receive something similar.
