A new course that not only feeds the student’s mind but body as well will be available soon in the Lake City.
In March Thompson Rivers University Williams Lake Campus will be offering Regenerative Agriculture micro-credential in Food Sovereignty.
TRU said this program will provide the skills to build a Food Sovereignty program based on the students own needs and the needs of their community.
Instructor and one of the Founders of the course, Fred Fortier, said when he and his group started getting into Food Sovereignty initiatives with the local communities they discussed this idea where they could develop a Food Sovereignty course.
Fortier noted that the course will be more beneficial than other similar ones being offered in the province.
“Compared to other Universities that provide some sort of training around Food Sovereignty or Horticulture it really doesn’t get to the hands on stuff and I think this program does.”
488 hours of practicum learning that can be done within the student’s community or at a farm or organization of their choice is part of the curriculum, as well as the opportunity for student’s to develop practical and business skills in vegetable and greenhouse production using regenerative agriculture practices.

Regenerative Agriculture micro-credential in Food Sovereignty will run March 24 to September at the Williams Lake Campus at TRU.
