Tatlayoko Lake In The Chilcotin The Hotspot In The Province And Country

Tatlayoko Lake in the Chilcotin set two temperature records yesterday (Wednesday).

They were the hot spot in the Province and were tied for the hot spot in Canada.

Brian Proctor Meteorologist with Environment Canada said a lot of warm air came into the North Coast and some of it spilled into the Coast Mountains.

“Tatlayoko Lake yesterday (Wednesday) was 11.1 degrees celsius. The previous record was 10 set back in 2014 and we have records in that area going back to about 1930. We also saw high maximum temperatures records set in the Bella Coola area.”

Proctor said in that area of the Chilcotin the daytime maximum would typically be minus 1 at this time of year so about 12 above what would be expected.

He added that was a short term experience and that we are definitely now on the downturn of temperatures.

“We’re definitely seeing colder air settle back into the Cariboo and the Chilcotin. By the time we get into the end of the weekend and start of the work week we’ll be in the minus 20 to minus 25 range over much of the region. It’s probably a little colder than normal but it’s more of what we expect sometimes in the months of January and February as we often get these Arctic outbreaks a little bit cooling things off,” Proctor noted.
