Average rent down dramatically for an apartment in Williams Lake

The average rent for an apartment in Quesnel and Williams Lake went down last year.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says the average rent in Quesnel as of October of 2024 was $1,009, down from $1,087 in October of 2023.

A one-bedroom suite was actually up slightly by 13 dollars a month, but a two-bedroom suite was down by 78 dollars.

The drop in the average rent in Williams Lake was much more dramatic.

It went from $1,685 dollars in 2023 to $1,059 this past year, which is a 626 dollars less.

A one-bedroom suite was 833 dollars this past year, compared to $1,247 in 2023, and the biggest difference was for a two-bedroom apartment as it was $1,023 dollars in 2024, compared to $1,854 in 2023.

Province-wide, there was a five percent increase in the average rent.

Vacancy rates in the Cariboo remain quite small at 1.2 percent in Quesnel and just 1 percent in Williams Lake.

One-bedroom: $864 in 2024, $851 in 2023
Two-bedroom: $1,072 in 2024, $1,150 in 2023
Three-bedroom+: $1,266 in 2024, N/A in 2023

RENTAL RATES FOR WILLIAMS LAKE

Bachelor: $730 in 2024, N/A in 2023
One-bedroom: $833 in 2024, $1,247 in 2023
Two-bedroom: $1,023 in 2024, $1,854 in 2023
Three-bedroom+: $1,721 in 2024, $2,100 in 2023
