With 2024 winding down how will Mother Nature be ringing in the New Year in the Cariboo?
Derek Lee, Meteorologist with Environment Canada said there is some snow in the forecast and continuing for the next few days.
“There is the possibility of seeing of 2 to 8 centimetres in total by the time we get to Saturday. Temperatures will be slightly below seasonal for Quesnel and Williams Lake continuing into next
week. With no true Arctic air in sight we may be around 2 to 4 degrees cooler than normal. There is also the exception of 100 Mile House being slightly warmer than the Northern communities, they could actually see temperatures reaching close to zero by the time we get to Friday.”
In terms of clouds, Lee said it will increase in the region by Thursday continuing into the New Year with flurries in the forecast into next week.
“Overnight lows for Quesnel and Williams Lake it may dip into the negative teens, negative 11,12, for some nights as we move towards the weekend. For 100 Mile House it will be a little bit milder barley reaching negative 9 by the time we get into Friday and Saturday.”
Lee said the daytime temperatures might be a little bit cooler than normal by around 2 to 3 degrees but the overnight temperatures is actually above normal by 2 to 3 degrees.
“Despite this week we seem to be a little bit cooler, again it’s not true Arctic air. When the Arctic air we’ll be getting cozy at home when the negative 20’s, negative do it hit probably in January or into February,” Lee said.
