Williams Lake motorists planning to ring in the New Year should also plan to give Operation Red Nose a ring.
Their Holiday Campaign of providing safe rides home to drivers and their vehicles will be available one more time tomorrow (December 31) for New Years Eve.
Coordinator Deborah Pickering said in her experience it’s always the busiest night of the nine and that last year the teams were out most of the night.
Pickering added it was so busy that when she looked at the clock it was 4 in the morning and their drivers were still on the road.
“We advertise that we are open until 3 am and we stay open if the calls are coming and we close early if the phones stop ringing. So New Years it doesn’t typically stop ringing until well after 3 in the morning so we do our best to keep going until things start to dwindle down on the phone.”
Pickering reminds Williams Lake residents that they can call her anytime during the week to ask questions about Operation Red Nose.
“You can actually call me and get your ride form filled out prior to going to your party and I put it in the cue chronologically, it’s kind of like reserving a ride but it’s still first come first served so by the time that you give me that information on when you want your ride it will go in the lineup according to that time. We’re pretty good at calling and confirming that you still want that ride as people sometimes change their mind because they’re having a good time and want to stay another half hour or alternatively I’m ready to go home now if you have a team available.”
Last year Operation Red Nose gave 68 safe rides home on New Years Eve, to date since they started back on November 29th this Holiday Season they have given a total of 222.
