Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Shares His 3 Concerns For The New Year

Industry..Healthcare..and seniors..those are three topics of concern going into 2025 for the BC Conservative Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA.

Lorne Doerkson said he’s very concerned about industry in the province, particularly in our region.

“There is going to be much conversation in the New Year with respect to industry in general terms but certainly where our economy is concerned, borrowing is also a concern. We just cannot continue on the path that we’re on in this province with respect to massive deficits and massive borrowing. I think that’s going to be a big conversation in the coming weeks and certainly the coming months.”

Doerkson noted that he also has his concerns when it comes to the Healthcare System.

“I’m so happy that we haven’t had closures here (in the Cariboo) for awhile and I’m grateful for that without question, but it’s still definitely high on the radar and it will definitely be part of the conversation in the New Year.”

Doerkson said when it comes to our seniors that he’s hoping to get another letter writing campaign going with senior citizens in our community with the respect to the high cost of heating fuels.

“I’ll be looking for supports, not just at a provincial level but to really lobby the government to really get after the Feds as well. So many seniors in our communities that are finding it really tough to recover from what has been a pretty huge increase in the cost of living. I know at the Federal level there’s a lot of clapping going on that they’re subdued that growth but the reality is the period that we’ve just gone through didn’t go down it stayed the same and we adding another 2 percent.”

Doerkson added it’s pretty challenging for a lot of our residents but for our seniors it’s really pretty frightening.
