Mustangs Acquire Three Players in Holiday Trades

The Williams Lake Mustangs have acquired a hometown Defenseman in a series of Holiday Trades before the New Year.

Trent Thiessen has been traded to the Mustangs for “Future Considerations” from the Fernie Ghostriders. Thiessen, a big 6’8″ 220 lb 19 year old defenseman, will bolster the blue line with some much needed size for the young Williams Lake team.

Thiessen has bounced around the KIJHL, starting his journey last year with the 100 Mile House Wranglers, scoring two goals and picking up five assists. Thiessen was traded to the Kamloops Chiefs before heading to Fernie where he’s had one assist.

Joining Thiessen in the Lake City from the Ghostriders is Goalie, Braxton Becker. The 20 year Victoria, BC native has bounced around the league this season as well. Coming from the Osoyoos Coyotes before Fernie. Becker has a 90 per cent save rate out of this three games played.

The Mustangs traded away Joseph Krukowski from Airdie AB. Krukowski has played 14 games with the Mustangs, scoring only one goal and picking up two assists.

In return for Krukowski, the Mustangs receive Brendan Calahasen from the Creston Valley Thunder Cats.

Calahasen, 20 years old 6’1 and 195 lb, started in the KIJHL with the Sicamous Eagles, scoring 17 goals and picking up 14 assists for 31 points. Calahasen has had a slower start this year as a Thunder Cat, only scoring four goals and one assist with 5 points out of 22 games.

Calahasen will bring some experience and maturity as an older player to the Mustangs.

The three new players are will take to the ice with their Lake City teammates after the Holiday Break in the New Year.
