Operation Red Nose #’s Down With 1 Last Night To Go

Operation Red Nose wrapped up their final full weekend of giving safe rides home in Williams Lake.

Coordinator Deborah Pickering said it was an interesting one as they typically get busier and busier.

“On Friday we gave 8 rides, it was just a quite night in town. We still got 8 people home safe so that’s a good thing. Then on Saturday night we gave 47 rides so that kept our volunteers pretty busy. Looking back last year on the last weekend that Friday night we did 35 rides and 52 on that Saturday night”.

So far this year Operation Red Nose has given 222 safe rides home to Lake City motorists with one more night yet to come after their Christmas break.

“New Years Eve is typically our busiest night of the Season. The first year I was doing Operation Red Nose in 2022 on New Years Eve we did 71 rides and last year we did 68. I’m really hoping that we can surpass those numbers and I’d like to get around 80 that would be amazing but we’ll have to wait to see what that night has in store.”

Pickering said what she’s learned this time around is a lot less people actually go out to drink which is ok and keeps us safer on the roads.

“And some people do go out and they are aware of their limit and they arrange for a designated driverto pick them up so it’s still a winning situation.”

Operation Red Nose will be back to give motorists and their vehicles safe rides home one more time on December 31st starting at 9 pm.
