A violent repeat offender is back in custody thanks to some help from Police Dog Services out of Prince George.
Quesnel RCMP Sergeant Clay Kronebusch says they received a report of a stolen vehicle yesterday (Dec 16) afternoon at 4:44 p.m.
He says it was parked in the Walmart parking lot and the driver was still in it.
“Police attempted to apprehend the driver who then accelerated forward striking the police vehicle and fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed through a crowded parking lot.”
Kronebusch says it was later reported to have gone off the road in Kersley and the driver had fled on foot.
“Police Dog Services out of Prince George attended and conducted a lengthy track of the suspect. The suspect was located barricaded in a shed. The 30-year old man was taken into custody after a brief struggle.”
Kronebusch says the suspect is well known to police.
“He was recently released on conditions for a similar offence that required electronic monitoring but was found to be breaching his conditions as he removed his ankle monitoring shortly after being released.”
Kronebusch says RCMP are looking to talk to anyone that may have witnessed or has video or dash cam footage of the interaction in the Walmart parking lot to call the detachment at 250-992-9211.
