As expected the number of safe rides home given by Operation Red Nose in Williams Lake were way up.
Coordinator Deborah Pickering said that’s compared to the same weekend a year ago when they gave a total of 59.
“On Friday night we provided 37 safe rides home and on Saturday night we did 48 safe rides so we’re pretty happy with those statistics.”
In 2023 and including New Years Eve, Operation Red Nose in Williams Lake had given a total of 297 safe rides home over the Holiday Season.
So far this year Pickering noted they have provided 167 and believes that number will get even higher as the final weekend before Christmas approaches.
“A lot of people call me and ask me questions about Operation Red Nose and I’ll mention call us about a half hour they plan to home. It really does make a difference, if somebody calls right before they want to leave and we don’t have a team available right then we’re worried that they might get tired of waiting and maybe taking a risk getting themselves home. If you do call 30 minutes prior to leaving we get there at that time or pretty close to it within 5 or 10 minutes so it really works out well do that.”
Operation Red Nose will be back on the streets again in Williams Lake this Friday and Saturday (December 20 and 21) from 9 pm to 2 am and then wrapping up the program on New Years Eve Year.
