South Cariboo First Responders Lacing ‘Em Up To Assist The Food Bank

It’s Blazing Heat versus the Unstoppable Force!

It’s the Guns and Hoses Charity Hockey Game with 100 Mile Fire Rescue taking on the 100 Mile House RCMP tomorrow night (December 14) at 7 at the South Cariboo Rec Centre.

Organizer Sargeant Jason Nash with BC Highway Patrol said the idea to put this game together came when he was approached while watching his son play hockey by someone asking why this hasn’t been done the last few years.

“The most recent one in 100 Mile House I think would have been around 2015 so almost 10-years ago but it wasn’t an ice hockey game it was a ball hockey game. The person thought it was a great idea and wanted to know of we could do it again.”

That put the wheels in motion.

“So I told them that I would kick some tires,” Nash said, “to see if anyone was interested and reached out to Fire Chief Bissat and long and behold here’s where we are. We’ve got a few bodies that are interested and we’re going to try to pull this off. There was great interest from both sides in wanting to play. A lot of guys are dusting off their gear who haven’t skated in a few years but are looking forward to getting back on the ice for something fun like this.”

We asked Nash if he would consider making this Charity Hockey Game a tradition.

“Absolutely and that’s actually been some discussion we’ve had among those who are going to be involved in this game and the people helping me put it together. If we can make it a fun and a successful community involved event we would look at expanding it and continuing with it throughout the years to come, and identifying different charities if necessary and making it an annual event.”

All proceeds from this Charity Hockey Game will support the local food bank and admission to the game is one or more non-perishable food item.

The evening will also raffle prizes of gift and goodie baskets sponsored by local businesses and organizations, and between periods the U7 and U9 kids will play mini games.
