Barkerville’s Olde-Fashioned Christmas is Upon Us

Correlieu Secondary’s concert band will be one of the many events headlining Barkerville’s Olde-Fashioned Christmas this weekend.

According to Stewart Cawood, Manager of Public and Media at Barkerville, this will be the second time the secondary school’s band will perform at the historic town.

“It’ll be the first time since before COVID,” says Cawood. “They’ve played a summertime concert before. This is the first time they’ve come out for winter since 2019. We’re really excited.”

The concert band performs on Saturday in the Methodist Church from 12:15 to 1:15 PM.

There will be plenty of other festivities to take part in throughout the weekend, including sleigh rides that can be booked now and start early each day, photographs with Father Christmas, caroling through the town, the ever classic school lessons, and a personal favourite of Cawood’s the fresh baking at Wendle’s House.

All the festivities will be surrounded by decorated buildings and an atmosphere around the historic town that Cawood calls “a different experience.”

“Our team has been out getting the town looking festive,” Cawood says. “My favourite thing is seeing people who’ve never been to Barkerville through the winter.”

Olde-Fashioned Christmas begins December 14 and ends on December 15. The Welcome Centre’s gates open at 9:30 AM. The Festivities will end at 5 PM each evening.
