Donations to the Salvation Army Food Bank are down quite a bit going into the Holiday Season.
Family Services and Community Outreach Director Tamara Robinson said right now they are in desperate need of peanut butter, pasta, cereal, canned soup and vegetables, tomato sauce, stove top stuffing and Hamburger Helper.
“We have 689 people currently registered for Christmas assistance this year which is a 20 percent increase of new people who have never applied for the Christmas Program. 114 families have children, which is 176 children registered with us and 155 families are registered without children.”
Robinson said to help fill that need, the Williams Lake Salvation Army Food Bank is looking for sponsors this year.
“If any business in the community or private individuals would like to sponsor a family for Christmas they can contact me and I can get them the information on that. Our Food Bank donations have significantly decreased this year leaving many people in our community who are struggling to cope with rising costs of groceries. As the Holiday Season approaches the need for support is is greater than ever and thank the community of Williams Lake for their donations throughout the year.”
Robinson said Christmas Hamper registration was the third week of November and now they are filling hampers and getting everything ready for everyone for distribution day which is on December 18 and 19.
“On December 23 at noon we’ll be serving a full Christmas meal provided by City Furniture.”
