Several Cariboo Regional District Fire Chiefs and Officers were recognized for their service.
On Saturday night Regional Board Chair Margo Wagner, Area L Director Eric de Vries, and Area D Director Steve Forseth were on hand for the presentations made during the Annual Fire Chiefs dinner held in Williams Lake.
Forseth said he had the honour to co-present an award with Wagner to Randy Worsley who retired a number of years ago from the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department.
“A representative from the Fire Commissioners Office was also at the dinner because this was Randy Worsley’s 35th year of service to the department which is a very significant event. As Area Directors we definitely appreciate anyone who takes the time to serve on a rural fire department especially those commit 35 years of faithful service. And I know Chair Wagner likes to make sure that Area Directors involved with their fire departments as well.”
Forseth said he’s gotten to know Worsley very well over his longtime service to the commuity.
“The Fire Chief is intimately involved with annual budget discussions with the Area Director. I’ve come to rely on his guidance in terms of what he needs to have a successful fire department so I’ve come to listen to his wisdom about what his department needs and to help to facilitate the resources for it.”
Foseth added 35 years in a rural fire department is a very significant event, it doesn’t happen all that often, and when it does we need to show our appreciation, our respect, to those who commit well north of three decades of faithful and respected service to a rural community such as Wildwood.
