Not only does he have a new political party, he has a new position as well within it.
Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Lorne Doerkson was recently appointed BC Conservative Assistant Deputy Speaker of the Legislature.
Doerkson said he excited to take on the role to moderate debates in the House and move things along.
“Most of the time there there is something going on with respect to either a bill or there are estimates which is really the budget conversation that happens in the Legislature. And that will go on for months where certain critics and members of the opposition will ask questions of Ministers to better understand how a Ministry is running, why they’re spending money, why they’re not spending money.”
With all the experience he has gained during his political career, Doerkson added that he’s also excited about the challenge of learning a new role.
“I’ve been a pretty active member of the Legislature for the last 4-years. I have been Deputy Whip, I’ve been the Caucus Chair now in two parties, and certainly have been very active with respect to Question Period and other things. I’ve been very active with Rural Development, Emergency BC, and also Water and Lands.”
As to when he will begin actively taking on the role of BC Conservative Assistant Deputy Speaker, Doerkson said that will depend on Premiere David Eby.
“There has been much conversation about going back for a limited Fall sitting in the Legislature. I think British Columbians would like us to get back to work and I think Premiere Eby will certainly hear that from residents in our Province. At this point we are waiting for that decision to be made.”
