Quesnel Motorists Feeling ‘Stonewalled’ with Higher Gas Prices

Quesnel motorists have written letters and taken to facebook asking their MLA to investigate higher gas prices.

Motorists in Quesnel are paying higher prices at the pump compared to the neighbouring communities of Williams Lake, Hixon, and Prince George.

According to GasBuddy.com, the Petro-Canada price per litre in Quesnel is 164.9 cents. Whereas in Prince George and Williams Lake, their Petro-Canada’s prices are 158.9 cents, and 144.9 cents respectively.

Newly elected MLA, Sheldon Clare, says “there is little” the government and his office can do about the higher prices.

“We can’t remove the tax, and we can’t change regulations. What we can do is talk to parties involved. It depends on what the facts are. The idea is to find out what the information is, and then take action upon the information, but we just don’t have it right now.”

Quesnel’s motorists have spoken out in facebook posts, and wrote to the British Columbia  Utilities Commission for an explanation why Quesnel has been ‘singled’ out with higher gas prices. Motorists received no clear response as are feeling ‘stonewalled’ by the Commission’s lack of action.

Clare says that “it’s not realistic that an entire community has got higher prices for so long,” and adds that he has seen and commented on some social media posts, and that his own efforts to contact the Regulatory Commissions have unsuccessful as well.

“We sent a message to the Commission about this, and we haven’t been told anything, they have not got back to us.” Clare says. “It’s been since last week. My staff and I are pushing to find out more information.”

Clare tells motorists to remain vigilant, watch the prices, and to continue their efforts to ask questions about the gas prices.
