The Wildwood VFD’s fire protection district has been extended to cover the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club’s facility and the Bull Mountain Cross Country Ski Trails.
The needed fire protection will officially start in January 2025.
Steve Forseth, Director of Electoral District D for the CRD, said that this process has taken a couple of years, and required an investigation on the lease the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club holds on crown land their facility is located by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs’ on whether they could apply for the Protection District extension.
“Because of where the land they [Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club] operate is on, there was a question of whether we [the CRD] could technically enter to receive that application for fire protection. The Ministry clarified based on the type of lease they could be deemed to be an actual property owner. So therefore, they could apply like, any other private property owner applied to the regional district, for an extension of the Fire Protection District.”
In addition to the protection district expansion, Forseth has committed to the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club that he will help lobby Williams Lake City Council for a 5 thousand dollar grant for the Club. The grant will cover the costs for new equipment for adults trying to get into cross country skiing.
