Quesnel RCMP urge motorists to slow down and stay sharp for trick-or-treaters’ safety for Halloween tonight.
RCMP ask that motorists be on the look out for parents and children crossing the roads and wearing dark costumes on their search for candy. Drivers are also advised to make sure their headlights are working and set to the highest settings for more visibility, both for themselves, and pedestrians.
Sargeant Clay Kronebush says there are a few extra precautions parents and children can take to make sure they remain visible to motorists tonight.
“When parents are out trick-or-treating with their kids, make sure they wear reflective clothing,” Sargeant Kronebush says. “Have children carry flashlights, or glowsticks so they can be well seen by motorists. Stay together and in ‘units’, and stick to lit streets as much as possible.”\
Another precaution RCMP advise trick-or-treaters to avoid houses without any lights on. Parents are also advised to examine their kids’ candy caches for already opened candy wrappers handed to them, and to double check that they recognize the candy wrappers. RCMP say that some adult candies have been found with wrappers that look like the classic candy bars, pops, and bags of chips, and urge parents to take them away immediately as these are not safe for young children.
