Wildfire Risk Reduction Project Slated For The South Cariboo

A Wildfire Risk Reduction Project is planned to take place West of 100 Mile House along the Tinnmusket Forest Service Road.

Cariboo Chilcotin Forest District and BC Wildfire Service will be working with SDX Limited Partnership.

The scope of the work covering just over 404 hectares, involves removing the surface and ladder fuels, as well as pruning and thinning out the stand to create crown separation and reduce the risk of high-intensity crown fire.

This project is a mixture of hand treatment and mechanical treatment and burning will happen on any day until March 20, 2025, when the venting forecast is fair.

The Ministry of Forests has completed several wildfire risk reduction projects within the district including on Fox Mountain, Airport Road, South Lakeside, Dog Creek, and Chimney Valley.

There will be smoke and there may be flames visible from Enterprise Road, Upper Dog Creek Road, and the surrounding areas.

The Ministry says completing this project will help reduce the wildfire hazard in an area near Dog Creek and help restore grown-in Douglas-fir stands to a more natural/desirable state.

This project is funded through the Community Resiliency Investment Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction Program.
