“They’ll Find Homes Very Quickly” BC SPCA

The ten abandoned cats found over the Thanksgiving weekend in 70 Mile House will soon be on their way to their fur-ever homes.

Manager of the BC SPCA’s Vancouver animal centre, Jodi Dunlop, said the five kittens that were born shortly after arriving into their care on October 15th are all healthy and thriving in their foster home.

The following Friday morning one of our team members said that the pregnant cat hadn’t eaten that day which was a clear sign that she was going into labour. We went to our foster roster right away to look for someone that would be willing to take this cat on then we transferred her into the foster’s care and 3 hours later, bingo five kittens.”

Dunlop gave this update on the other 9 cats that were rescued along with the expectant mother.

The small ones, the 3-month olds they’ve been spayed and neutered and the other female cat has been spayed and they are now ready for adoption.”

Dunlop noted it will be a little while yet until the new born kittens are ready to be adopted, but when they are, it won’t take long to find them a new home.

Anytime kittens come into our location which is highly populated, a lot of people are looking for kittens and they go out the door very quickly.”

Dunlop added they have the population of people looking for any animal, whether they’re young or old, they find them homes very quickly in Vancouver.

This story had a very happy ending.” Dunlop said, “It was very kind of the lady to stop and go back because I don’t think the 2-week old kittens would have made it through a night, it’s too cold for them. And because the carrier was so small, it was just like a tent pop-up carrier, there was no insulation or protection from the weather at all.”
