A Brand New Forum for Tourism Hits 100 Mile

The first ever Tourism Forum for the South Cariboo is coming to 100 Mile House.

The South Cariboo Visitors Centre is hosting a full-day event on November 5th to bring all the tourism-based businesses for a meet and greet from around the region.

“It’s a full day devoted to tourism,” Julie Gilmore, Manager of the South Cariboo Visitors Centre says. “We have Guest speakers who’s going to be talking about who is who in tourism. What’s working, what’s not working. Just facilitating and asking questions, and have a discussion around where tourism is, what barriers are, and what they need help with.”

Destination BC, Indigenous Tourism, Land of Hitting Waters, the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation, and others will be guest speakers.

Gilmore says this new Forum idea came from years of the tourism businesses not knowing who and how to engage with each other each year before the peaks of the tourist seasons.

“We just launched out community tourism plan, and doing the plan we do speaking with different resort owners and that. People weren’t sure who’s what, and what’s doing what, so we just thought that this was a great way to get everybody in a ‘self-care’ group together, and talk about tourism.”

The South Cariboo Tourism Forum, as the event will be called, will take place on November 5, from 8 a.m until 4:30 p.m, at the 100 Mile House Community Hall.
