Search and Rescue members from across the province were in the Lake City recently.
They were attending a Ground Search and Rescue Team Leader course hosted by Central Cariboo Search and Rescue.
SARS Member Debra Bortolussi said one of their own, Tina Herd, took the course and successfully completed it.
“We are very excited that Tina is our newest Ground Search and Rescue Team Leader. Having more Team Leaders means that they have the skills, the know how, and the resources to be able to lead teams when we are out on searches and or rescues. Her accomplishment is an extra tool in the tool belt of Central Cariboo Search and Rescue.”
Botolussi said the Ground Search and Rescue Team Course was held over 3-days but those taking it needed requirements leading up to it.
“You have to be a member for a minimum of one year but you do have to be a Search and Rescue member in good standing. You have to have shown skills in that particular area and be recommended by your team for it.”
Bortolussi noted that anytime they have someone in the group take additional training, that always ends up trickling down and coming back up to the rest of the group.
“It’s always a benefit to the entire team and we’re always excited to see it happening.”
