Notice of Motion Filed to make City Council Revisit Safe Injection Site

Acting Mayor in Williams Lake calls on council to take a second look at controversial Safe Injection Site.

Scott Nelson filed a Notice of Motion that will force Council and Staff to revisit the information and presentation on overdose awareness from Cianna O’Connor and Interior Health.

Nelson said in Council that Mayor Rathor “was going to discuss it with staff as well” when Rathor is back from his holidays. Nelson noted that there has been a lot of discussion about a safe injection site throughout the community.

“The reason I can do that is because I couldn’t as a Councillor,” Nelson addressed the meeting. “But as Acting Mayor, you can use the Mayor’s office to bring that back, so, that’s the notice of motion that I will file.

With the notion filed, Nelson says that this will give “Council the opportunity two week out” to discuss the idea of a safe consumption site.

Until then, no further action from The City or Interior Health can be acted upon.
