Williams Lake City Council has approved the use of their Lake Harvester this month.
After community requests to clear troublesome vegetation that has been damaging boat propellers, Council approved the harvester’s use in October 8’s council meeting to clear the Scout Island and Dutch Point boat launches. Other areas of concern set to be cleared are the Scout Island public beach and aerodrome that have been the cause of more safety concerns for recreators.
The City purchased the harvester in 2020, and used it in October 2021 after applying for a permit with the Ministry of Forests. This year, City Council has the approval of the Ministry of Forests, and is just waiting on First Nations support to run the harvester.
A spokesperson from Council noted that the plan for the City is to demonstrate the continued uses of the harvester to potentially expand the areas it can be used to clear vegetation in the future.
