BC Wildfire Service will be doing a prescribed burn with Williams Lake First Nation, Alkali Resource Management, and Cariboo Chilcotin Natural Resource District.
Crews will be supporting WLFN and Cariboo Chilcotin Forest District in conducting the 50 hectare prescribed burn surrounding the Thunder Mountain Speedway.
Fire Information Officer, Jeromy Corrigan says the burning will begin as early as Monday, September 23rd, continuing periodically to October 4th.
“Ignition will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow for quick smoke dissipation.” says Corrigan.
“Smoke will be visible from Williams Lake and surrounding communities, and to motorists travelling along Highway 20, Dog Creek Road, and Bond Lake Road.”
Corrigan says the objective of the burn is to reduce fuels for resilience to natural wildfire, and support previously completed fuel management treatments.
